Around My Apartment

Yesterday I was playing around with my camera in our apartment. We don't live in a big place, but we have some interesting accessory pieces.

I for some reason love baskets and had to have a huge one when we moved into this place. I took a few pictures of it yesterday and then played with different filters in Photoshop. In the one below, I added soft light to bring out the orange and yellow in the basket weave.

Evan was given a keyboard in April that sits by the front windows. I took a bunch of pictures playing with depth and focus and think I captured a pretty good one.

As you can see, Evan is still reteaching himself the basics.... this difficult musical piece has been opened for quite some time!

Palmetto Hall

Last weekend we were in South Carolina doing a little wedding planning and we stopped in a resort community called Palmetto Bluff. This elegant resort plantation is one of the most luxurious areas of South Carolina. It's remote location is right off of the May River creating a tranquil backdrop.

In the middle of the downtown area is a beautiful small church that was constructed from wood out of 9/11. It probably only holds about 100 people, but is simply adorable.

In the first picture I added a Sepia filter in PS to bring out the simplicity of the church. In the second, I added a warming filter to give the window a calming feel.

Reilley

My parents recently got a new dog. Well, by recently I mean about 11 months ago. Anyways, I was home over Memorial Day and took a few pictures. He's a pretty good looking pup who is now the spoiled child of the family. He will never know just how easy he has it!

The Duke Chapel

Evan and I had a wedding down in North Carolina this summer and had the chance to stop at Duke University on our way home. We lucked out with a beautiful day so I snapped a few pictures. Although I'm not sure any pictures can do the Duke Chapel justice - I took a stab at it.... Check them out.

The Kiddos

My beautiful niece just turned 4 year old (crazy)! We all got together to celebrate and I captured some pictures of her and her hilarious brother (almost 2). These kids are pure joy. The innocence that children have is truly inspiring. You can't help but laugh over the adorable things they do. Well, I can say that now until I have kids of my own some day!

My First Blog

Over the past few months I have taken up photography. It all started in March when my amazing fiance brought home a Nikon D90 as a "surprise" - you know, a random Wednesday night gift. He's pretty amazing. Anyways, 4 months later and one class down I feel like I'm ready to finally start posting some pictures! I absolutely love capturing moments in time, memories that otherwise would be forgotten. I have new respect for photojournalism. Anyone can capture a smiling still shot, but it takes true talent to capture real emotion.

As I post - let me know what you think! Who knows, maybe one day my obsessive hobby can turn into a real calling...
